Can it be used to create restricted content feeds?

    Hi, I am wondering, if, somehow, this plugin could be used to create podcasts with restricted content.

    Example:
    – a feed holds both publicly accessible audio data, but also restricted content (basically only accessible to users of a certain role in WordPress)
    – said feed would be fed to Spotify or any other platform capable to read a WP Audio feed
    – however, the user would have to somehow authenticate to listen the protected feed content

    As far I researched, this would always and explicitly depend on the third party platform and how they would handle authentication, thus… impossible, since no third party will integrate with WP’s login management.

    But, perhaps your plugin has some features, or integrations that allow it do this?

    Hi,

    Your research is unfortunately correct, it’s not possible the way you describe it.

    You may be aware that some services are offering “private” or “protected” feeds. What they usually do is generate a unique feed _for every user_ so they can customize the content per user and even shut down the whole feed when the user cancels the subscription.

    If you don’t expect too many listeners with access to the restricted content, there is a manual workaround: use the feed slug to generate these unique feeds (for example use a slug like cYA6PuyburwUCDNB) and then send the link to the user.

    But there is no integrated feature in the Publisher that helps you automate this at the moment.

    Hi @eteubert – thanks for confirming what I suspected.

    Yes, the solution with a unique URL is what I came up too, in detail it actually will be an URL with a unique hash composed of username and other data, which the user can “generate”. Of course, there is still the risk of that user sharing their URL outside, but then, if someone is paying it is a low risk that they will then share it openly.
