Can NextGEN gallery only display captions once thumbnail has been clicked?

    I have a large number of images and galleries on my site. I use the nextGEN gallery plugin to display them. I wonder if there is a way of only displaying the captions once the thumbnail has been clicked, as when using the shortcode [template=caption] adds the description to the thumbs as well and this mucks up my galleries thumbs positioning.

    I am quite new to wordpress but have no aversion to tweaking code when necessary. Any help would be much appreciated.
