Can no longer update plugins since 4.4

    Get stuck in maintenance mode and can no longer update any plugins since WP updated to 4.4.

    Error message:
    “An error occurred while updating Plugin: Could not create directory. /public_html/wp-content/plugins/any_plugin/”

    Happens for all plugins, changed plugin directory permissions to 777 but makes no difference.
