• I use my site to sell PowerPoints. However, when I tried to upload a PowerPoint, I got the error message “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.”
I have uploaded over 100 PowerPoints in the past and had no problems. Can you help me?

  • Hello @kirstymca ,

Have you updated anything on the site say WordPress, any plugin or theme? Maybe one of these activities has changed the allowed file types on your WordPress.

Anyway, please have a look this plugin to add the presentation slides file type in allowed file types and try uploading again.

Please let me know the results.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Regards,

    Hi Ketan,
    Yes, I recently updated everything.
I’ve tried the plugin you suggested – thanks.
PowerPoint wasn’t on the list, but I added it manually.
However, it’s still not working ??

    Hi @kirstymca,

What is the extension of your slides that you are willing to add? And what have you added in the plugin’s settings?

    They’re .ppt

    I added:
Microsoft PowerPoint .ppt application/vnd.ms-powerpoint (I found it on Google)

    Hi @kirstymca,

It Seems the plugin is not working for ppt files.

Here is one more solution through .htaccess file.

You will need to access the .htaccess file through FTP or use this plugin to edit it.

Just add the following lines at the end of the file:

    AddType application/vnd.ms-powerpoint

Please let me know if this solution works!

    Hi Ketan,
I tried using the plugin to edit the .htaccess file, but when I tested it it said:
    “Test Failed
There are syntax errors in your unsaved .htaccess content. Saving it will cause your entire site, including the admin, to become inaccessible. Fix the errors before saving.”

    Hi Ketan,
I tried uploading a .pptx file, and that seems to work OK. I’ll check with my customers if anyone is likely to still need .ppt

Thanks so much for your help!
