  • Hi,

You cannot install WordPress by clicking on files in your server backend. Refer to the tutorial provided by hostgator on how to install WordPress using this link

I cant figure out how to get to my c panel to install

Access to your CPanel and navigate to WordPress. Follow the instruction there. Do you know how to access your CPANEL?

    Hi there,

I kind of have a similar problem. When following the above tutorial for setting up a wordpress site via the hostgator quick install method everything goes fine until I try to log into wordpress.

I received an email stating that the install was complete along with my log in details. However, when I click on the admin url link in the email it takes me to a blank webpage with a 404 error. Below is the link to the web page:

    https://dirtbird.ie/wp-admin

I’m a complete newbie to setting up a website and although I thought I was being very thorough (looking at endless tutorials) I’m clearly doing something wrong.

If anyone can be of any assistance I would be hugely appreciative!!!

    Thank you in advance,
    Luke

@lukep81 — it looks like your domain is not pointing to the Hostgator service yet, but to HostingIreland.ie.

Your domain registrar (the place where you purchased your domain, I’m not sure if this is also HostingIreland.ie) needs to update the nameserver settings to NS3665.HOSTGATOR.COM and NS3666.HOSTGATOR.COM, so that the domain will point to Hostgator.

Got this error message when i clicked on the link for my control panel after running quick install from hostgator:

    Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the maccyver_wrdp1 database.

    Are you sure it exists?
Does the user maccyver_wrdp1 have permission to use the maccyver_wrdp1 database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_maccyver_wrdp1. Could that be the problem?
If you don’t know how to set up a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

    Please help.

@mccyver The quick install from Hostgator should setup the database, and database user for you. Did you use the quick install within Hostgator, or are you saying that you followed the instructions here at www.ads-software.com for the five minute install?

i use hostgator quick install, followed it to the letter, got my login for cpanel.

Hi @mccyver – the error you’re receiving typically means the database name is wrong in your wp-config.php file.

You will need to double check the name of the database created during the quick install with the database name in your wp-config.php file.

While you’re there, you should also double check the db username, db password and the hostname.

If you used the quick install, it should have created the database, db user, db user password for you, and filled in all of that information in the wp-config file it created itself during that install. It’s possible something simply went wrong during the quick install. It doesn’t happen often, but it can happen.

If you’re not sure how to check on those things, ask HostGator support. They will be able to help you.

    @mark Senff

Apologies for the delayed response, I’ve been really busy but your right it was a case of redirecting the name servers.

    Thanks a million!
