After an update of NextGenGallery PlugIn my WordPress Installation was screwed.
Auto-Update of WP didn’t work anymore. Meanwhile I managed to bring my site back to live with a manual reinstall of WP.

However, I am not able to install any plug in. It always says “installation unsuccesssfull – folder could not be created”

All folders are chmod 755. However also manual creation of a folder is not possible. Neither in the WP section nor in the root directory or other subfolders.

Can this be the root cause? Which user is supposed to be listed there? The user name from my hoster account? How could I change it?

    Thanks!
    Michael

The owner of WP folders should be the user that PHP runs under. It is set in server configuration files. If you cannot even create folders in public root, you’ll need the help of your hosting tech support.

I figured out that it was the missing webspace. After deleting a lot of old stuff, creation of folders and installations of plugins are working again.

    Thanks,
