can not see or edit page content

The website has content that is visible to viewer. However, if I try to edit the content I get a blank page and 0 for word count evn though there are plenty of words on the page. I cna not see them in editor mode. If I click on the space to begin writing it is not acknowledged. I can create a new page but can not add any content either.
Very strange. Further, there are little changes that seem to block editing ability and viewing by editor. I am logged on as admin with full access. I think this started with theme upgrade. I have deactivated all plugins and then put them back one at a time. Got rid of clowdflare? and suddenly the header images started rotating as they are supposed to for the first time. But header written content disappeared. Can not edit anything. Please advise. NOT TECH OR THEME DESIGN savy!!!
