    HI

I installed XML Sitemap & Google News but can not see it when I open the URL.

    It shows only Html text.

Because I am trying several sitemaps to choose the best for me, I have already installed it and it was ok. But now it does not show the maps. What can be the problem?

    Regards
    Fernando

  • Hi, not sure if the Read more ?"/> at the top of each page is added to the sitemap output as well. If so, then the XML will be invalid and you might get to see an error or garbled output. Any idea where that Read more ?"/> is coming from?

    HI
Meanwhile, I let the default WP sitemap on. I do not know what the origin of “Read more ?”/>”, it is shown for years. But I have already installed your sitemap and it worked ok. I tried others and had no problems. When I decide on yours and installed it again and it shows like that. I deactivated all plug-ins but did not work.

The “read more” could be coming from your theme, maybe in the single.php or page.php file. To manage and extend your core sitemap, you could use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/xml-sitemaps-manager/

If you have XML Sitemap & Google News still installed, you could try to use it to only activate the Google News sitemap to see if that one suffers the same problem. Let me know, and I’ll take a look ??

I think, I am not sure, the “read more” appears after installing the Google Analytics tracking code.

What seems strange is the fact that it was good the first time I installed it.

I liked it because I have a bilingual site and not all sitemaps can work with that. Your′s, even if does not separate in different pages de “pt” and “en” it charges every URL of posts, pages, tags, and categories.

It seems, now, now it doesn’t on my side. I already tried everything. Conflicts, disable all other plug-ins, and nothing.

Maybe in the future, it will work ok.`

Does the core sitemap (which you are using now) not include all language URLs?

I installed, again your sitemap and is the same.

However, I will let it be installed for you to see what could be the problem.

Please see the sitemap URL: https://www.fernandocol.com/sitemap.xml

I loaded it at Google search console and instead load almost 1200 URLs it only says:
    16/08/22
    URLs detetados
    1

I already tried everything I can, and know, and never change.

It is a problem for me because it seems that google does not like WP default sitemap and I am dropping every day in ranking.

If I load Google news it will be a 404 when I tried to see the sitemap URL.

If we can not solve it, I must go to another one and not no complete like yours.

NOTE: Before installing yours it was another one with the same “/sitemap.xml”. Maybe this is the problem. Maybe it does not uninstall properly and gets some confusion in the system.

I, also, changed the theme, but it did not work.

…or, something with the last WP update? The other time I tried, it was before the last update. Only thougths.

    (@colfer)

More: If I uninstall all plugins and themes through the WordPress diagnosis plugin and call the sitemap URL it shows, but only as “www.fernandocol.com/” and not as “www.fernandocol.com/en” and “www.fernandocol.com/pt” inside the folders of the posts, pages, categories and tags as it was the first time.

So, instead of the two subdomains, “en” and “pt” I only can see the main root of the site.

Since I deactivate the tool it will come as you can see in the link above.

So, something is not working right.

    Hi

I need to move on and can not stay long without a proper sitemap.

However for you to get an idea of what appears in the sitemap URL:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><rss version="2.0"
    	xmlns:content="https://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"
    	xmlns:wfw="https://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/"
    	xmlns:dc="https://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"
    	xmlns:atom="https://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"
    	xmlns:sy="https://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/syndication/"
    	xmlns:slash="https://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/"
    	>

    </rss>
<!-- permalink_structure ends with slash (/) but REQUEST_URI does not end with slash (/) -->

I will try, again, later, after new updates from you and WP.

    Fernando

Hi, sorry I am too late to see the result live but from your pasted source code, I can conclude that something is indeed interfering with the proper sitemap output. It appears to be an empty RSS feed instead of the expected sitemap index.

What multilingual plugin are you using?

Note that the sitemap plugin was designed to include all languages in the same sitemap, located at the root of the site. But it may behave differently with untested language plugins.

Also note that if the “Read more” at the top appears to come from un-escaped output of the og:description meta tag value: O FOTóGRAFO DE CASAMENTO Dá-VOS AS BOAS VINDAS Bem vindo, ou bem vinda, à casa do fotógrafo de casamentos. A casa é muito simples porque foi construída para deixar que apenas as fotografias sejam vistas. Aqui, encontra muito para ver, do seu trabalho fotográfico, em alguns dos casamentos de noivos que tiveram a delicadeza de... <a class="excerpt-read-more" href="https://www.fernandocol.com/pt/inicio/" title="ReadINICIO">Read more &raquo;</a> which includes a read more link tag.

If you know which plugin generates the og:description meta tag (Jetpack? Yoast or another SEO plugin?) then you can edit the description value to remove that link code.

    It is ok, no problem.

It is Polylang. It seems it is ok for you. Even with Polylang deactivated it is the same. It is always that code. Maybe something with the last WP update. When the next update I will try again.

Last year I used Yoast but that “read more” is there long before of that. I think is from Google Analytics but I am not sure.
