    Question is this:

You’ve got games (with all their data entered through SportsPress) and separate reports on each game (text based, including photos, perhaps embedded videos etc.).
Can you link/join that report to the game it reports on?
I know I can include a shortcode for the game in the report, but that’s not a real link in the database, and it cannot be done the other way around.

I think it makes sense to link/join a report (and furthermore a photo gallery, a video entry) to a particular game inside the database.

In the SportsPress Features page (https://www.themeboy.com/sportspress-pro/features/), under Publishing, it says “Match reports – Add a recap to each match to provide your audience with detailed match reports.”. Is that related to my question?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi @serpicopnpolycom,

In my opinion, there are two ways you can follow.
    1. Include the whole article inside the “Description” of the game.
    2. Include a link to the article inside the “Description” of the game.

Either way, the event and the article will be “connected” and “interlinked”.

    Thanks,
    Savvas

    Morning Savva,
Thanks a lot. By description you mean…

    1. Excerpt;
    2. The main text body (editor);
    3. Another field named ‘Description’?

I don’t seem to be able to find any ‘Description’ field (3).

Entering a link straight into the Excerpt field (1), it only shows the link as text – useless.

Entering it in the main text body (2), it brings the entry linked to perfectly (https://gsperisteri.gr/event/volos-peristeri/).

This is a good solution, but having said that, it is not a programmatic link inside the database, I understand.

    Any thoughts?

    Greatly appreciated.

I think that this is the easier way ??

I am not sure of what exactly you ard trying to achieve by “programmatic link inside the database”. Any examples?

    Thanks,

What I mean to say is that by entering the link as in solution 2, I’m just adding plain html to the body of the entry, I’m not linking the entry to another entity, it’s just text.

Examples of ‘linking the entry to another entity’:

? The Featured image is a media entity inside the database linked to a post (a separate entity in the database); same with categories.

? Also, a Game is internally linked to two Teams (database entities), a League (database entity), a Court (database entity), etc.

Am I making sense at all, or have I got it all wrong?

    Nice Sunday, isn’t it…

    Ok…

So you need to connect a Custom Post Type post (event) to an article. I am not sure if you can achieve that with ACF plugin.

Sportspress does not support this functionality I am afraid.

Great, Savva, thanks a lot. By adding the link in the body, the main aim is achieved. I was just wondering about the other solution, assuming that it could come in useful for some future implementation – makes sense, possibly, for a future upgrade.

But it’s quite fine for now.

Thanks a lot for your time, enjoy the sun… from the window!

I think I did it! I hope I haven’t dome any damage, but it seems OK and will probably work if needed.

    Thank you so much.
