Can pages be featured content on homepage

Hi! My organization is considering switching to the Twenty Fourteen template, but in playing around with the demo, we haven’t found a way to get pages to show up on the homepage slider at the top – just blog posts. In our current template, we’re able to tag both pages and blog posts as “featured” and they pull to the homepage. This is essential for our business, so we really need to know if it’s possible before making the switch. Is this an option? Are we missing a step that would allow our “featured” pages to show up on the homepage?
