Can pictures actually slow down your website?

  • My website seems to be quite slow and I always receive messages about images, whenever I analyze it with different tools, that say that my images are too big or so.

    Also, they always claim that WP needs to resize them (I think they mean, for example, if I upload a larger picture, which I then adjust in the editor).

    However, this does not make much sense, as there are so many photographers who have portfolios with lots of high-res pictures and they don’t have slow websites (I have a blog/magazine-type website).

    Do you have any thoughts?
