Can't read username/password text box; redirecting login

Hello, I have two questions about the tabbed login widget.
My first question is that the user name and password text boxes are very small. What I mean is when I click to type my user name in the letters get cut off and I can’t see what I have typed.
My second question is that I have created a login page and I was wondering if it is possible to make it so the user gets redirected to the home page once they log in, instead of remaining on the login page.
