can slider be placed above the menu?

Im having a hard time getting the slider to even show up. I see that it says to add the shortcode to each page you want slider on, but I dont want the slider at top of each page, I want it further up by the main menu. Is this possible?

If I have a 2 column static page layout, I dont want a short slider to cover only the 1 column…i want it to stretch across both columns.
