Can someone help me setup Windows Server 2012 R2?

this is really not a WordPress question. You should find a Windows Server forum fo rhelp learning that operating system.

Why is it a bad idea?

Because WordPress was written to run on Linux; many plugins assume a Linux OS, WordPress uses .htaccess, which is not relevant on Windows. You *can* run it on Windows but it’s extra work on your part.

What does the extra work involve?

My work uses Windows Server which is why I want to run it.

So the install on Apache is simpler?

I’m a linux guy, so I use linux. If you’re in a Windows shop, then you use what you’ve got. If you don’t have the Linux admins to support a linux system, you shouldn’t have one.
