I’m going through the process of upgrading all sites using the old CMS plugin to the latest MCB plugin. One of the sites now has the Custom Blocks visible as well as the same information in Custom Fields. The Custom fields are entitled the same as the MCB areas but preceded with the letters ‘mcb-‘. The Custom fields cannot be deleted.

I have one more site to do in the CMS to MCB transfer. I have left it until last as it has a large amount of data in Content Blocks.
Any ideas on a fix before I attempt the big one?

The Custom Fields meta box always shows all post meta, right? So it should’ve shown the previous MCB’s as well.

I never use the Custom Fields meta box, so I don’t really know how it works exactly. Since it’s easy to break it (especially if someone else maintains the website), I would always recommend to create your own meta box with the specific information you want for this post type and make it a little extra user friendly.

Hmm, I’m not sure what your saying here – ok or not ok?

Basically, I have changed from the CMS plugin to the latest MCB. The result is that when I look at a page within the Admin area using the custom template I now have a MCB panel called, for example ‘pictures’ [which I’d expect] plus a separate Custom Field below that called ‘mcb-pictures’? Both fields have the same information in and amending the html in the MCB panel also amends the Custom Field?

This is not a devastating problem but it is somewhat annoying and not how MCB works on all of my other sites?

Wait – I’ve just found the thing that causes it.

WordPress shows all post meta (including the content blocks) in the Custom Fields, except when they start with an underscore. When MCB was updated to 3.0, the data was saved in another way (and old data was migrated), but the fields don’t start with an underscore. Since I don’t use these Custom Fields provided by WordPress (for different reasons), I didn’t notice.

Since this is a minor issue and the solution takes quite some time and requires to migrate the data again, I will not fix it right now, but I’ll put it on the list though. Thanks for your clearification!

Okay, great. Now that I know that it’s not going to cause a major problem in the future I’ll carry on with the other conversions.

Best regards and many thanks on your super-fast responses.

    No problem, good luck converting!
