Can the list loop show what category the event is in?

The events of our website have two very distinct categories for which I was looking to make the distinction prominent, but the list loop doesn’t display what category an event is in. I was thinking maybe I should find a way to add/modify hooks, but I couldn’t see a reference to that type of customization.
