Firstly, great plugin, I’ve used it on a few sites in the past ??

However there’s a trend towards not allowing WordPress sites to use .htaccess files, with both Pantheon and WPEngine dropping support. Is there an option (or is there a plan to add an option) to disable the reliance on .htaccess files completely?

For the providers above you can use Nginx workarounds in the FAQ, but you still get warnings in the log files. I wonder if long term there could be a pure-PHP option which is platform-independent.
