Can we edit the excerpt?

    That is part of the post but we’d like a bit more control over what gets included as an exerpt.

    with posts, when you create then post, you can create the excerpt which says whatever you want it to say.

    once published, you can amend the topic to say what you want it to say.

    if you want to amend what is shown programatically, you can use the filter

    ‘bbppt_topic_content’

    in line 453 of index.php to change what is out in the post
