Can we force plugins to fail "gracefully"?
-
Long-time lurker and secret lover of WP finally gets off backside…
I’ve adored what the WP team have done over the last 11 years, and I don’t want to ruin our relationship, but one thing has really come to upset me as the amazing plugin phenomenon grows, is the way when a plugin fails it is capable of bringing down the whole site, whether it’s a 500 error or a blank page.
Can we force plugins to fail gracefully? Is there something we can put in the core that will “error check”/run a debug on the plugin at runtime and skip it or placeholder it, instead of letting it bring down the site. I know this would add to server resources and load time, but might it be worth doing? Even if it’s an “option” admins can turn on when updating plugins?
Kisses to all xxx
