Can WP pull the featured image from the linked external page?

I’m not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but I would like to know if the featured image from linked, non-wp pages can be displayed on my site. I was hoping to have the posts function similar to the way social media sites pull the featured images when you post links there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
