• Hello,

I have got a new customer and inherited a website created in WordPress but it looks like the admin account details I have are restricted as there isn’t an option to update wordpress or the plugins. Does this mean it was created by a super admin and is there any way to lift the restrictions on this without ‘help’ from the super admin?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Regards
    James

If it’s a Netowrk site, then you woudl have been set up by a super-admin.

But I doubt that’s the case. It smost likely that your user account has been set up as an ‘Editor’ and not an administrator. You’d need to contact your client to find out.

Thanks for coming back to me.

It is a multisite and the customer was given an admin login which they have given to me but we can’t do updates. Is there any way to change this if they are not speaking to the original agency that created the website?

You still may have been set up with an editor account and not an administrator account.

The only ways to find out are to…

    1. As you said, find out who has super-admin access and get them to set up your account as an admin/superadmin.
    2. Look into the database using phpMyAdmin, or another similar tool, and check the permissions in there. Be warned that any changes doing it this way could break your account, so if you’re going to do anything with this take a full backup first!
