• A consultant was saying to me that it would have been better to have created better, more description file names for my images. Can one change then right in wordpress?

I see a title field to change but not file name filed for images in the media library.

That said, even so would it be wise? Probably best to have that done on a hardrive no? but huge amount of work either way.

  • First thing you need to do is install and activate the Media File Renamer plugin.
If your media library is displayed in the grid view, then you will need to switch to the list view.
In the list view, you will notice a new column labeled ‘Rename’. This column will show the status of your image, other media file names, and the title.
The plugin will look for file names that do not match the media or image title in the library.
For example if your filename is DSC00132.jpg and the image title is “New year party”, then the plugin will show a rename button next to the file. Clicking on rename button will change the image file name to new-year-party.jpg.

If you run a multi-author site, then it could be hard to keep an eye on the image filenames.
Automatically Update Image File Names When Saving Posts
Media File Renamer also allows you to automatically update image file names to match image title when saving posts. This feature is not enabled by default, but you can easily enable it by visiting Settings ? File Renamer page.

I guess I’m asking about this without a plug in.
