  • Hi,

The user_passwords are stored in the database as encrypted strings, therefore export CSV will have that data.
Please refer to the support thread.

Thank you mujeebur for the very quick reply.

Yes i have read that post. I don’t need to retrieve and use a direct passwords, but the import should just do the trick – ive tried this, using the CSV; when i tried to log on, the password i had used, just did not work? Thanks

    Hi @rich_smc,

You can import the passwords by keeping them in the user_pass

If you have any issues, kindly share us the CSV via support link here.

    Hi mujeebur,

Just doesnt seem to work. Ive tried it in this way –

    1) As admin, i created a new user (subscribe)
    2) Created the password.
    3) Logged out of the admin; tested the new user with password, worked fine.
    4) Then Exported all users of “subscribe”.
    5) Checked the new CSV file – i must admit, there was an admin user there, which shouldnt be there, so i removed that and saved.
    6) I then deleted the new user in the wordpress site.
    7) I then imported the “New user” file. The new user looked fine.
    8) Logged out of the admin.
    9) Then tried to log on again. The password i created just does not work, so the user_pass doesnt seem to work.

I will pass the CSV file over to you also.

    Thank you.

    Hi @rich_smc,

This is the case we have explained above and also in the other link. The export CSV’s user_pass column won’t have your current password. It contains only the MD5 encrypted string as it is impossible to export the original password. The new password will be the string in the user_pass column. Try logging in with that password.
They will look like the below sample.

    user_pass

Thank you. The only reason i do ask, is because i know that “Duplicator” does store all passwords of the users when you copy over – theres no way to do this through your plugin?

I’m doing this as i’m having to move a site to another server; the client would prefer that the users he has, shouldn’t have to create a new password. Duplicator works great all users and passwords stay together, unfortunately ive had to wait for the change and new users have happened – so i just need to be able to copy a few new ones, with passwords…..

    Hi @rich_smc,

The Duplicator plugin is retaining the passwords as they are migrating the entire database table. Our plugin is fetching the data from the table. Thus upon import, WordPress again encrypts the password.

I see, I guess there is no real plugin that does this; full Duplication is the only way.

Thank you for your speedy reply for this.
