I am wanting to add a zoom feature to my featured image in the gallery/portfolio section of a friends wordpress site I have offered to build for her.

In the filterable portfolio the page has a main section in which the ‘featured image’ appears (without or without lightbox if enabled) and then there is a right hand column that contains meta info, name, date, tags etc.

What I am aiming for is that the hover is on the image in the main section image

However when I enter “[zoom][/zoom]” into the main text area of the post dashboard page – then save + refresh a duplicate of the featured image now also appears in the right hand column and although something does seem to be moving underneath this duplicate it is only maybe 10pixels deep and a transparent greyscale version of the featured image – it is not what i was hoping.

I am sure this is something I have done wrong… and after reading your ‘comments’ section and finding the ‘issues’ you had with the guy who gave you a really bad review I though I would email you first…as is the sensible thing to do.

I hope you can point me in the right direction.. thanks

    Matthew

There is nothing to enclose in the shortcode, so you only need to include [zoom] in the page, not [zoom][/zoom]

An example of the plugin in use can be found on the site I originally built it for at: https://davedrapercreations.co.uk/artwork/high-flyer/

The plugin displays the featured image (thumbnail) attached to the page at the ‘large’ size (as set in settings → media) and allows the full sized image to be shown on mouseover (or via touch on an iPad) as a zoomed version within the boundaries of the original image.

    • What is the URL of the page where you are trying to get the plugin to work?
    • Is the example page I linked to above at all similar to the result you are looking to achieve with this plugin?
    • Do you have a featured image specified for the page?
    • What is the setting for the size of the ‘large’ images specified at settings → media library?
    • What is the native ‘full’ size in pixels of the image you uploaded to use as the featured image for the page?

So you just type [zoom] anywhere on the page and the featured image becomes zoomable? (assuming it’s a large size)

That is correct. The featured image will be displayed at the ‘large’ size defined in settings => media so the original image must be uploaded at a larger size than that.
