• As an example:

I want a separate page called “Music” where I intend to make posts about… um, music.

I don’t want my default “Front Page” to have these posts, but I want the convenience of using a tool like Just Blog It for Firefox to make these posts to a separate page.

Basically the question is: Can I make posts to a page rather than just having static content, or is there any way to do something similar?

    Thanks so much in advance.

  • Are you meaning “Category” rather than “page”?

Well, not the way I understand it. I guess what I mean is: IF I have a page (not a category) created, is there a way to “post” to it the same way you would with the default page.

Say I find something interesting on the web related to music. I want to blog about it. The easiest way to do that (that I know of) is to write a new post. I can create the post, and even assign a music category to it, but it shows up on the front page. I want anything I post that is related to music to go to a separate page from the default — to not even show up on the front page.

From what I’ve learned so far, I would have to add the content to that seperate page by editing that page. I would rather be able to just create a new post, somehow inform WordPress that it is to be “posted” on the Music page, and have it show up there and nowhere else.

    Does that make sense?

Not really. You should install WordPress and play with it a bit so you have a better idea of what you’re asking.

You don’t post articles to WordPress Pages. However, if you examine how Category lists are presented, you’ll see that they essentially do what you’re asking.

And, if get just a wee bit deeper and examine The_Loop (the magic that puts posts on the screen) you’ll see that you can exclude categories from the main page in a variety of ways.

I understand I think. I do have WordPress installed and am playing with it. So I can create the category, create a link to go directly to that category (showing only the posts under “Music” for instance), and style the link to show up as part of my navigation bar. Then somehow tell wordpress not to show that category on the default page. That would do it, now to figure out how to make it not show on the front page….

    Bingo!

Look over that page on The_Loop. There’s a section in there that discusses how to exclude a category.

    Thanks much!

check out the category visibility plugin for an easier solution…just install this plugin, make a “music” category and make the posts from that category not show up on the main page. It’ll take 5 minutes, 10 minutes max even if you’re not familiar with wp all that much.
