• I went to update my website a few days ago and found I couldn’t access anything in the admin section, including plugins, everything was listed there on the left as usual but I couldn’t access it and on the right it was just blank except there was a note to say to update to 4.2.4 which I clicked on and nothing happened. So I went about it manually, downloaded the files, put them on my domain using FTP and still no change.
I have been told it could be something to do with the wp-includes/version but not told what in particular, and I have also been told that it is something to do with something in wp-admin.
I have also tried using my backups with no luck and I am starting to feel as though I have to delete everything and start all over again. Please, if anyone can help me avoid starting from scratch, it would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the guide you followed for manual updating: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update

    still cannot access admin

    Hi Tara,
Yes that would be the guide I followed, only I couldn’t do step 3 as I couldn’t access it. I’ve worked my way through the Login trouble guide and tried removing the plugins the way they say but it didn’t change anything and neither did removing the themes.
I’m sure what I’ve missed is something simple that is going to bite me on the nose any minute.

This is happening to me also https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/unable-to-login-to-admin-8?replies=1. Did you solve this issue. Any help is appreciated.

I’ve had my host restore my site from a backup and now the website is showing correctly from the backup but I still have a problem.

The site that viewers see is fine and exact to the backup. The trouble is I cannot access the admin. They said it’s been changed from /wp-admin to /wp-admin.php but I’ve found /wp-login.php is the one that gets me a login screen.

So I login and I then get a page saying
This webpage has a redirect loop
    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

Then just out of curiosity I go to the website and I’m logged in, I can navigate around the website but only as a viewer, I still cannot access the dashboard, if I try to access the dashboard I then get the redirect loop page again.

For me I am getting this problem sometimes, not always. I experienced this yesterday evening, and at night it was working fine. Now today morning the same problem exists again.
