• Hello,

I recently switched my website over from using www.ads-software.com to Squarespace. During the transfer, I forgot to also switch over (or at least screenshot) my old blog posts from WordPress. I use GoDaddy for my domain and I used it to switch over from WordPress to Squarespace. I have tried logging in to my old WordPress admin but it says I do not have an account (or something similar to that).

Does anyone know how I might access my old blog posts? I never deleted my WordPress website, I simply just directed my domain to go to my new Squarespace website.

    thank you.

  • Is this a www.ads-software.com installation or WordPress.com? Assuming the former, can you tell me the exact error you get when trying to sign in?

    Hi Dartiss,

This is a www.ads-software.com installation and the error I get is:

    “404 Not Found

    EBrsI2T2/hPAlEKV6 @ Mon, 22 Aug 2016 16:09:37 GMT
    BRICK-53″

Which URL is displayed when you get that error?

    The URL is: https://castanes.com/wp-login.php

I am trying to log in through my old login. Is there a way to access the information without going to my old website?

When you say you switched from www.ads-software.com to squarespace, I don’t understand? www.ads-software.com isn’t a host, so where was it hosted? Also, where is your domain currently pointing to – your old hosting or your new one? Can you sign into your Squarespace site okay?

Sorry for the confusion, I am not that tech savvy!

Our original website was made with WordPress and we used GoDaddy to point our domain to it. We then decided to update our website and switch over to Squarespace.. so I designed a whole new website on Squarespace and then used GoDaddy to point our “www.castanes.com” to Squarepace instead of WordPress.

Currently, our website is pointing to Squarespace – everything seems to be working great on there!

I’m confused. If the domain is pointing to Squarespace now, why are you getting an error logging in? I thought the new site worked okay?

The new site does work great.

I log in to Squarespace using: https: //www.squarespace.com/login
I used to log in to WordPress using: https://castanes.com/wp-login.php

When I used to log in to WordPress at that location, I was able to access my posts, blog, website settings, etc.

All I want now is to access my old posts and blog that was on my WordPress site.

    Does that make any sense?

Okay, you can access SquareSpace hosting site, but not your own site since moving it over. How did you move your WordPress site over – was this something SquareSpace did for you?

Yes, I can access all of my new site and make changes and everything (everything to do with Squarespace is great). I just forgot to move my blog posts over to Squarespace and now they are lost somewhere in my old website.

To switch over to Squarespace, I went to my GoDaddy account and changed the AHost, CName, NS, etc. to the ones given to me by Squarespace.

Isn’t https://www.castanes.com your site? That’s not working, so I’m confused as to what you’ve moved and you say is working.

Yes, that is my site and it is currently working.

My question: How can I access my old website that was built in WordPress?

I now have two completely different websites (one old website built with WordPress, and one new website built with Squarespace). Even though I moved my domain to go straight to Squarespace, shouldn’t I still be able to access my old WordPress website (even though it isn’t active)?

Imagine this: Say you had a website for your company but it was very difficult to use and hard to work with, so you had an intern build an entirely new website using Squarespace. You then took your website name (www.castanes.com) and directed it to the new Squarespace website. Does that mean your old website does not exist anymore?

Sorry, when I tried it earlier it wasn’t working <odd>.

Yes, your old site would still exist, as long as GoDaddy have retained it. Although the domain won’t be pointing to it, you should be able to access it either via a GoDaddy provided URL or IP address – you really need to be speaking to them about this. You should then be able to export your posts, etc, to then import into your new site.

    Okay, great!

I will try reaching out to them. Thank you for your time and sorry for the confusion!

You’re more than welcome. If you’re not “tech savvy” then it can be hard to explain things ??
