    After the upgrade, the message I get is “The lindaksienkiewicz.com page isn’t working. lindaksienkiewicz.com is currently unable to handle this request.”

    I cleared my cache. I tried using both Chrome and Safari to access the dashboard. I use a Mac.

    I don’t know what upgrade caused this. I’m not even sure what version of WordPress I am using! My website is working fine, except one widget looks wonky. Someone else built my website for me, I do not understand http, and I am not tech-savvy. I need simple to follow advice please to access my dashboard or to fix this.

    What about https://wp-help.org/ ? Are they legit?
    Or https://skookummonkey.com/

    Both contacted me via Twitter.

    I don’t understand why I should have to pay for someone to help me untangle a supposed update for a site I pay for.

    The lindaksienkiewicz.com page isn’t working. lindaksienkiewicz.com is currently unable to handle this request.

    Sorry, missed that. Try signing in to your hosted account (you should have a name and password for that). Using the file manager they provide look for wp-content/plugins. Rename that file wp-content/plugins-old.

    It is too early to think about hiring someone. Some of the easiest solutions have not been used.

    I know when I see someone that needs a little more hand holding…..

    I think as a best selling author she does not need “hand holding.” What she does not need are condescending remarks about responsibility.

    Sorry Linda, please carry on.

    @kmessinger Thank you.

    I am just saying there are easy things to try before hiring a nerd. She can always go back to her web design firm https://www.littleleafdesign.com/

    I do not know what a wp-config.php file is, or how to access it, much less insert anything in it.

    wp-config.php, I will break it down for you so you can understand much clearer. wp is wordpress of course, the – is just to signify a break, because wpconfig would be a little more difficult to understand, config is just a shortened version of configuration. and php is just the file type, like a .exe on your desktop. you can edit it through your ftp program, or any php-editing software on the internet, it’s just code though, so I wouldn’t if you don’t know what you’re doing.

    Hope this helped!

    All your files are on the server at your host who looks to be Bluehost. This is where you would login, https://my.bluehost.com/web-hosting/cplogin

    @kmessinger – got it, signed in. There’s a message “Hey! One or more of your WordPress core files have been modified. This could mean that your site has been hacked! Click here to learn more. If you are not sure what this means or you did not knowingly change any of the core files yourself, you may want to reset your core files to their original versions.” Should I click to restore core files?

    Let’s just shortcut this one, shall we?

    @lksienkiewicz Email me directly. I’ll try to walk you through it.

    My email address is [email protected].

    The upgrade modified files. See what learn more says. There should be a way to disregard that message.

    BTW, No, you should not click that link to restore the core files. You upgraded to a new version of WordPress, so yes, the files will have been altered. That’s what an upgrade does.

    What you need to do is to determine where the error is and fix the specific problem. I’m happy to help with that.

    I was working toward having her rename the plugins folder as a first step.

    @kmessinger and @samuel Wood
    I went ahead and clicked to restore the core files through Bluehost AND IT WORKED. I now have access to my dashboard!

    Thank you @kmessinger for suggesting going through my host. ??
