• Hi everyone,

I’m new to wordpress and on that forum too.Hope I did the necesssary to be accept to the community ^^
    Here is my problem:
I’m using version 5.1.1 of wordpress.
My problem concerns only access to wordpress so nothing to do with themes or extensions.
Currently, my site is local on my machine and I access it from my LAN without problem.
However, as I want to show my site to a few people, I wanted to configure access from the outside.
From here, after configuring the redirection on my box, I access the server xampp (https://ip_public) which hosts my wordpress site and the page is displayed well. Showing the good redirection.
But my concern is that when I want to access the url of my site (https://ip_public/mysite), I can’t, it displays that the site took too long to answer and I did not find where to change the settings to allow this connection.Itried to modify .htaccess file but with no success.
Thanks all of you in advance for your assistance.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello cmncmn,

As this your local IP it is obvious no one from outside your network is going to be able to access this.

It is possible through secure tunnel services online! These are services that provide you with a tunnel from the internet to your machine.

What that means is that they provide a publicly accessible URL, watch for calls on that URL and forward those calls to your localhost server.

There is a couple of good free service that let you do the same. Ideal for showing something quickly for testing:

    https://localtunnel.me/
    https://ngrok.com/
    https://localhost.run/

    Hope this information helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi @kartiks16 ,
    Thanks for your help.
I used localtunnel.me and got the same behaviour as mentionned in my subject.
I can access to the apache server with no problem but when accessing the url https://dyndns/monsite, I have the same problem.
I think there is a problem with my wordpress configuration which don’t allow request from outside.
Do you have an idea ?
    Thanks.

    Hey cmncmn,

I am not exactly sure, but I have done it successfully with ngrok.

I have found one more service who provide the same.

    Check this if that helps.

    Thanks.

I have solved this problem of demonstrating a website by using Teamviewer, a free download from teamviewer.com

It is possible (but not recomended) to setup port forwarding etc on your LAN’s internet connecting modem/router.

    Hi @kartiks16,
I tries ngrok and it’s very helpful. I got the same result my site still not available but the tool shows me an error when attempting to reach the page : 301 moved permanently.
Installation of forward was too much complicated because the site was asking for giving my card information.
Do you know how to fix the 301 error in wordpress ?

    Hi @rossmitchell,
    Thanks for your help here.
I use teamviewer for remote control for some clients.
Do you mean than you want to have teamviewer session with me to look my problem ?
If so, we can’t plan a meet for that, tell me when you will be available.
I agree with your advice that’s why I prefere now to use tools mentionned by @kartiks16
    Thanks all of you.

    Hi cmncmn,
No I don’t need to teamviewer with you.
What I do in your situation, where I want my client to see my localhost development, is that we BOTH start teamviewer, then with the client on the phone or skype chat, I get them to login and remote control my computer, they see my screen. I get to talk them through the demonstration, I see how they react to the menus and controls etc. I very much get to control the demo, at the end I disconnect the teamviewer session.
