    Hi
I updated to 5.0 last week. Just after the update, I could not access my dashboard for a long while (about 1/2 day) then everything came back to normal and I updated some plugins.
Today, I again cannot access my dashboard, end up on a blank page without any error message.
I followed the different prescriptions found on the forum (cleared cookies and cache, used a different browser…) without any success.
I logged in the server via FTP to look for a .maintenance file which would have been left but did not find any.
My WordPress.com dashboard says that my site cannot be accessed.
I am using Firefox 63.0.3 or Chrome 70.0.3538.110 on OS 10.12.6
The site is hosted by GoDaddy with CPanel.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I really was wondering about it but not techy enough to be sure.
Then it just means that their “automatic configuration tool” is not set up for FZ but if I configure the access manually it will work !

I will wait a bit to try it as they are still working on the problem; just got a message saying that the site was up and running, which is true, but the WP dashboard stays inaccessible.
Here is the explanation they gave me:
The issue was caused by the WordPress core that was corrupt, I have replaced the core and this fixed the issue, I noticed your website is multisite, at WPPS multisite support is not within our scope, I have fixed this issue but in the future we wont be able to provide you the WPPS services.

All right, I am up and running again.
Still a few questions if you do’t mind:
    a) I have another minor error showing, which is
“Notice: Constant WP_MEMORY_LIMIT already defined in /home/pattymaccpan/public_html/wp-config.php on line 93”
My understanding is that the limit setting doubles somewhere but It does not say where. How can I find it and which one should I eliminate ?
    b) I received an automated email message from WordPress stating that I had been automatically “updated” from 5.0 to 4.9.9. What does that mean, how can this be automatic.
    c) my dashboard now shows that 5.0.1 is ready and that I should update. Would you recommend to do it right away or first play a bit with the site before updating ?

Thanks again for your help and insights which are greatly appreciated.

Check wp-config.php and see if you have multiple defines for WP_MEMORY_LIMIT

You updated from 4.9.8 to 4.9.9. That’s an automatic update. 4.9.x to 4.9.x+1. Automatic updates only apply to the third decimal.

I’d wait for 5.1 before going to WP 5 unless you want to start using the new editor now. In that case, go to 5.0.1.

I found two sets of instructions:
    ini_set(‘memory_limit’, ‘128M’);
at the beginning of the file
    and
    define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘256M’);
    as last line.

I don’t remember changing these values and never had that error before…
Should I set both with the same value ?

remove the first one; move the 2nd one up to above where it says “stop editing”.

    All good, thanks Steven.

Now I can access the home page of the site but all links generate errors (whether to pages or posts). Grrrr
GD is on it, I hope.

That’s an .htaccess problem. Reset from settings->permalinks.

If you have any additional issues, please create a new topic.

    That is what I thought.
I renamed my .htaccess and recreated the permalinks but it stll does not work.
    Will see what GD says…

Thanks for your help on this matter. I will close that topic now.
