Cannot access stored query for editing
-
Hello,
I have setup a page to view a single data record from one of the data tables. This page uses a stored query, which is accessed from the shortcode [wpdataaccess pub_id=”10″]. The page simply contains the title and this shortcode, and it functions correctly in the browser.
However, I now need to edit the query that is accessed by the shortcode – but the current version of WPDA no longer gives me access to the query!?
Please advise how I can access the query behind the shortcode, so that I can edit it to suit the revised requirements.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,
In addition, I have noticed that when I click on the “Edit” button to make changes to a data record in the new Data Explorer, only a blank window with “Data Explorer” in the top left is displayed. As such, I can only use the old Data Explorer for this purpose.
Thanks again.

Hi Nigel,
Starting from version 5.5.20, legacy tools will be hidden from the menu and top menu by default.
However, you can bring them back by enabling them from the Tool Guide page. This option will be available until the intended schedule of removal next year.
Please go to WP Data Access > Tool Guide > click on Legacy Tools below the banner.
See here: https://share.zight.com/YEub75z5
From there, you can enable the old legacy tools you wish to use.
We highly urge you to slowly migrate your existing tables to the App Builder as the old Data Tables will be removed Summer of next year.
Here’s a basic guide to creating a data table in the App Builder: https://wpdataaccess.com/docs/app-tutorials/create-a-data-table-app/
In addition, I have noticed that when I click on the “Edit” button to make changes to a data record in the new Data Explorer, only a blank window with “Data Explorer” in the top left is displayed. As such, I can only use the old Data Explorer for this purpose.
Could you send us a ticket about this issue via Contact | WP Data Access? We might need to take a closer look.
Let us know if you have more questions.

Hello Kim,
Thanks for your message. I have tried to enable the legacy tools, as you describe above. However, I received this error message:-
“There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”
WordPress has provided an error message in the email, as follows:-
“In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, WP Data Access.

The error message below:-
“When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:

Hi @rc169,
Thanks for the update! The issue is currently appearing on the free version only.
Peter has released a patch to fix the issue.
Please follow the steps as described in the documentation to install the patch:
https://wpdataaccess.com/docs/getting-started/patches/Let us know how it goes. ??
Hello Kim,
Thanks – yes, the patch has resolved the error when selecting “Legacy mode”. However, the menu items in the left hand column of the WordPress console, under “WP Data Access” are unchanged, so that I still cannot access the selections behind the shortcode [wpdataaccess pub_id=”10″]. The only way I can access these settings is by selecting the <WP_system_code>_wpda_publisher table from WPDA Data Explorer, where I can see (and edit) the settings behind the wpdataaccess pub_id code.
Can you clarify whether the old codes ( e.g. the above quoted [wpdataaccess pub_id=”10″] ) will continue to work beyond 2025? Or do I have to reconfigure all of the pages that use such queries before the access to the “Legacy mode” is permanently removed?
Thank you,
Nigel
Hi @rc169,
After patching and enabling the legacy tools, do you see the old table builder on the top menu?
See here: https://share.zight.com/p9u4pW74
If yes, click on Tables and you should still be able to access and edit your old data tables.
Can you clarify whether the old codes ( e.g. the above quoted [wpdataaccess pub_id=”10″] ) will continue to work beyond 2025? Or do I have to reconfigure all of the pages that use such queries before the access to the “Legacy mode” is permanently removed?
By the Summer of 2025, all legacy tools and functions will be removed. In other words, the old shortcodes will not work anymore. We suggest moving and creating new tables using the App Builder moving forward.
Feel free to message us anytime if you have questions about the new App Builder.
Hello Kim,
Thanks – yes, I do see the old Table Builder button, and it opens the correct page.
Going back to your first post on t his thread, I have again tested the use of the “edit” button for a single record in the new Data Explorer, but it still shows a blank window. I will therefore send a ticket, as per your suggestion.
Thank you.
Nigel
Hello Kim,
I am trying to create an app in the App Builder, following the suggestions on the page that you mentioned above ( https://wpdataaccess.com/docs/app-tutorials/create-a-data-table-app/ ), but the column names are not editable in the Table Builder on my installation.
Can you advise?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nigel
Hi @rc169,
The Column names are only editable in the premium version of the plugin.
I hope that answers your question!
PS: We also responded to your ticket about your previous post. ??
Let us know if you have other questions.
Hello Kim,
Thanks for your message. I am currently trying to build an app with the App Builder, but there seem to be some problems. In the “Table Builder”, I have selected the columns from the selected table. When I clicked on the “Hooks” column heading, the timer icon rotated for a couple of minutes; after that everything from the window disappeared, leaving just the words “App Builder” in the top left corner.
The hosting then seemed to crash so that other sites on my account became unavailable for a few minutes. As far as I can tell, there were no problems with availability of the servers, so I am concerned about what exactly happened when the App Builder crashed. I have not yet tested the “Hooks” column – as far as I can see from the “tutorial” page ( Creating a Data Table App ), this is not essential.
Having created and saved the app, I can also see it in the browser – at least, the first two columns of each row. However, when I click on the symbol at the left hand end of a row (to see all columns of the record) then the app window disappears from the page. Can you advise what is wrong here?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nigel
Hi Nigel,
Can you please temporarily enable debug mode and provide the link to the page that is causing the error? That allows us to follow the flow towards the error.
Please use the contact page on the plugin website if you prefer to share this information in private.
Thanks,
PeterHi Peter,
I have now enabled debug mode (on the Settings -> WP DataAccess page in the WordPress console), and I have tested the application. I tried to switch to page 2 of the list of entries in the table (there are 300 records in total in the table), but the system has clearly crashed, although the moving black line at the top of the table on the page is still “rotating”. The other WordPress sites on my hosting account are also now unavailable (this also happened yesterday). Eventually I get a “connection has timed out” message in the browser.
There are three files in the /logs folder of my hosting account – access_ssl_log; error_log and access_log. I presume these are the files that you need, so I will download them and send them via the contact page of the plugin website, together with the details of the page that causes the error.
Thanks for your help,
Nigel
