• Hello!

Ok, let’s begin by saying I’m kind of a noob when it comes to playing with code and stuff, but I always managed to get around until now. I wanted to split my site into two different parts, one in English and one in French. I figured the multisite option would be too complicated, so I tried just moving the existing site (patrickropars.com, in French) into a subfolder (patrickropars.com/fr) following this method, so I could install WP in another directory (patrickropars.com/en, in English) and have a simple html page as the homepage at patrickropars.com.

I changed both URI’s, then moved everything into the subfolder, and now I can’t access the admin dashboard, nor anything else except the old homepage at patrickropars.com. All I get when I try accessing any other page is “Cannot read /mnt/w0105/d02/s05/b033146e/www/patrickropars.com/fr/.htaccess”

    So uh… any ideas?

    Thanks.

  • what happens if you delete the .htaccess?
    you can regenerate it later

    what you’re doing should work

Would there be any possibility of just making a fresh install of WP in the new directory and restore my latest DB backup, or does the DB rely on the old access paths?
