Cannot access website though browser

  • Hello everyone,
    first I need to explain a little my situation: I never used wordpress or any of its services; I do however know a little about web development, and a friend of mine that does not but have to work with a wordpress website sometimes asks me for advice.
    He always managed the website thought the wordpress browser interface ( https://www.website.it/wp-admin/ ).

    This time the problem is after updating a plugin in the website he was unable to access it anymore; it just shows the error message

    Fatal error: Can't use function return value in write context in /web/htdocs/www.pescain.it/home/wp-content/plugins/event-calendar-wd/includes/ecwd-cpt-class.php on line 97

    I tried to access through ftp with Firezilla, but I get the ‘530 authentication failed’ error; I think I have to set up an ftp account first, but I have no idea how to access my website to do so.
    How can I access my content in another way?

  • The fatal error is due to the event-calendar-wd plugin. Removing it should fix the issue. Do you have cPanel access to your server? If yes then you can use that to remove the files.
