• Newbie here. First post.

Spent all morning getting WordPress running on my server. Made my first post. All went well.

Then, in admin, I changed themes. Nothing drastic, just pulled one from the available themes. Closed admin to look at the new theme, and decided I wanted to try another.

Accessed the admin login screen successfully, entered username and password, and was delivered to a blank page. No text, graphics, or anything clickable. Just a blank page.

Did I somehow hose myself by changing themes?

The url to the blog is: https://blog.doityourselfcomputing.com

Is there anyone out there who has seen this, or knows a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

    Ren

    Oops, wrong domain. Sorry.

    Thanks.

Have you tried a different browser or clearing your cookies?

It’s displaying just fine in Firefox.

Thanks for all your quick responses. I cleaned my firefox cookies and also tried IE. I have the same response on both of my computers (one Vista and one Win7).

Just a blank screen after logging in.

Any more suggestions? Do I need to take it down and start over?

You should be able to FTP to the wp-content/themes directory and just delete the folder containing the theme you tried to switch to. Perhaps it’s just not compatible with the latest version of WordPress.

WordPress should revert back to the default theme.

Will it reset to the default theme?

Just deleted all themes, and tried to log in again, with the same result-blank page after logging in. There must be a way of forcing a page to show. Do I have a corrupt file some place?

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Hmmm. So you’ve now deleted ALL of your themes, including the default one?!

If so, re-FTP the default one back…

Kept the default. It was the only one I kept.

Update. After deleting all the themes (except default) my blog doesn’t display either.

I re-uploaded the themes and the blog now displays, but not the admin pages.

If I decide to start over by reinstalling the wordpress files, my mysql data should not be affected, and my posts should still be there, right?

    Ren

Yeah, correct. You can delete and re-upload your wp-admin and wp-includes folders no problems.

The wp-content folder however contains any images you upload into posts, as well as your plugins and themes, so generally that’s left alone. In your root directory, the wp-config.php file is the one to keep safe – as that contains the database username and password, so don’t delete or overwrite that either.

Saying that, I don’t think that’ll help you with your problem. Take a look at this thread, it might point you in a better direction:
