cannot add a new post to blog but can create new page

I upgraded to 3.3.2 and I’m using 2011 theme. I deactivated all plug ins. I can post a new page, but cannot post a new blog entry. I can type gibberish, which does not appear; however, as soon as I hit the space bar, the little red squiggly line appears telling me that I’ve misspelled something. I can not activate the ‘help’ tab in the blog entry page, but can from other pages.
