Just installed the plugin and tried to create a new profile. I used small case letters, no spaces and a hyphen between two words. The plugin failed to create a profile and showed a page that said “Are you sure you want to do this?”, with no “Ok” button, nothing.

I returned to the settings page via the side WP menu and checked to see that the profile was not created.

What is the fix for this?

Just to follow up on this, I’ll see if I can replicate the problem on my test site when I get a chance.

Sorry for any offence caused by not replying earlier, but please realize that investigating this problem takes time.

It shouldn’t be necessary to use profiles to get the basics of the plugin running if you still want to, but as explained on the front homepage of the plugin, the plugin is mainly kept in the WordPress repository for the benefit of sites that already use it!

I’ll see if I can make that clearer.

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Thanks for the reply.

All that was needed was to just say you will look into it and that would have been enough.

As well, if this plugin is no longer updated and plan to turn this over to PDF embed plugin, we do need to know that and that can be posted as a sticky at the top of all postings. At least then people can decide to continue with GDE or go to your recommendation.

We also do respect the consideration you are providing to still help those who are already using your plugin, at least I do respect that.

PS: as a note, I just installed GDE because I used it on other websites and it was updated a short while ago. So the current install is the one I am having issues with.

    Thank-you.

    Update:

I went to one of my other WordPress websites that I manage, and I tested the GDE plugin, tried to create a new profile and the same problem.

I have had GDE on that website for around a year with no issues, until now.

(As a added note, if you are wanting to end GDE, that is fine so long as we know, I can move on to another plugin.)

Thank you for your updates – that’s helpful.

I believe the recent update disabled the ‘save’ profile functionality due to a security concern. The priority was to fix the potential security vulnerability (not high risk to be honest), and as I explained, ensuring the profile functionality still worked wasn’t actually as high on the list as you might imagine!

As no-one else seems to have noticed (or at least needed it enough to complain), and we’re kind of coming into maintenance mode for this plugin, it might make sense for me just to remove the profiles pages going forward (or fix if that proves to be easier).

I’ll make a note to check this in more detail for an upcoming release.

Thanks again for prompting me to consider whether an ‘end of life’ process will be the best way forward for this plugin. I’ll come up with a plan for smoothly prompting users to move to alternatives.

    Regards,

    Dan
