cannot add e-mail link to blogroll

In previous versions it was fairly easy to add an e-mail link such as “mailto:[email protected]” to the sidebar that worked great, but in upgrading to version 2.2.1 I cannot accomplish this task. The “@” sign does not take, and an “https://” is always added. The “blogroll” feature does not seem to allow e-mail links. Is it me or WordPress? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
