I am using The Events Calendar plugin. When in my WordPress admin area, upon hovering over the Events menu item, I used to see a list that included All Events, Add New, and more. After updating to WordPress 5.7, the only items that appear in that list are Tags, Settings, Help, Event Add-ons. I cannot access my list of All Events or create a new event.

I saw that someone had this same problem back in 2018 and tried the fix that was offered by the plugin author back then, but it did nothing for me.

    Help!

  • Hi there!

Can you please let me know which version your Events Calendar Plugin is on right now?

Yes. The site is running Events Calendar 5.5.0.1, and WordPress version 5.6.3.

Update: I updated to WordPress 5.7.1 and the issue persists

Ok. Let’s figure out if the conflict exists between our plugin and your theme, or our plugin and another plugin.

Please try these steps and let me know what you find: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/testing-for-conflicts/

OK. I followed the instructions to test for confilcts but the problem persists even with no other plugins activated and with the twenty seventeen theme. I did clear the browser cache and even did several force-refreshes on top of that.

(I do not have the twenty sixteen theme installed, but I assume any of the generic Worpress themes would work for this test.)

Hi, same issue here. Once updated the wordpress and plugins. \the event tickets still wont appear despite uninstall and reinstall everything. PLEASE HELP

@focus4digital your original post says “after WP update”. But then later you say you’re on 5.6 and then after updating to 5.7 the issue persists.

So were you on a version older than 5.6, and then the issue appeared after updating to 5.6? And the issue persists on 5.7? Or am I just misunderstanding (that’s definitely a possibility haha)

I’m just trying to see if I can pinpoint when the issue occurred or what triggered it so I can troubleshoot.

Also you said someone else had the issue back in 2018, do you have a link to that forum thread?

    Thanks!

I noticed the issue sometime after the site’s automatic update from WP 5.6.2 to 5.6.3. But my client typically adds her own events and had not needed to do so for a while, so it may have happened earlier than that, and I simply was not aware. So the site was at WP version 5.6.3 when I was first made aware of the issue, and I updated to 5.7 as part of my trouble shooting process after first posting here.

Full disclosure, I also updated the site’s version of PHP from 7.1 to 7.3 several weeks ago, and then up to 7.4 more recently (shortly after I updated WordPress to 5.7). However, I do not think this is causing the issue, as I reverted the site back to PHP 7.1 and 7.3 just now to see if that would restore the plugin functionality, but it did not. (I just put it back up to PHP 7.4.)

I do not have the link to that older post I found from 2018, but will see if I can find it again.

This is not the post I originally found, but appears to discuss the same issue around the same timeframe:
    https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/cant-add-or-edit-events-after-update/

Here is another (but again not the original one I had found:
    https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/add-new-event-option-has-disappeared-from-wp-admin/

The original post I found instructed to add some code to the functions.php file for the site. I tried adding the code to my site, but it did nothing to help so I removed it again.

James I replied to your other questions separately, but that post says it is being held for moderation by the automated system and is awaiting a manual review by a moderator. Hopefully it will post soon.

I think I see all your replies. I see a total of 3 replies since my last message.

This is very strange. Can you please deactivate, and uninstall The Events Calendar, and then reinstall a fresh copy?

    Thread Starter focus4digital

    (@focus4digital)

Sure, but before I do that, can you confirm that doing so will not cause all of the events currently on the site to be lost?

That data should all be stored in your database so you shouldn’t lose any events data. However, that being said it wouldn’t hurt to make a backup real quick. I use All In One WP Migrate to easily create backups. Updraft Plus is another popular backup plugin.

    You just never know.

That did the trick! All appears to be running normally/as expected again. Many thanks!

NOTE that when I went to re-install, I got a message about the latest version of the plugin not yet being tested with my version of WordPress. As I said, it seems to be working fine. But maybe that was part of the problem.

Thanks again for your persistence in helping me and my client!

awesome, I’m glad to hear it! I’ll follow up with the devs about the message. I do know that our plugin has been tested extensively with 5.7 but 5.7.1 just came out a few days ago so perhaps we still have a couple boxes to check on that.
