I’m trying to add a new link to my blogroll, but every time I enter all the information and click “Add New Link”, I get a blank page. Internet Explorer displayed this error message:

    Line: 38
    Char: 2
    Error: Object required
    Code: 0
    URL: https://…/wp-admin/link.php

Just to note, I haven’t ever added a link before – this is my first try. Thanks for any help!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

No… I will try all of those, thanks!

The same thing is happening with the media uploader – no matter what I try I can’t upload media. Gonna see if any of those solutions work, and then I’ll come back if they don’t.

Deactivated plugins, no result. Switched theme, no result. For some reason the plugins were still doing something, so I deleted them all. Then I deleted and reuploaded wp-admin and wp-includes and that finally worked. I can add links. But I CAN’T add media.

I’m getting this message in the media uploader: “Unable to create directory /wordpress/wp-content/upLoads. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I actually DO have a directory named upLoads in the correct path, and I’ve temporarily changed my file permissions to 777, but that doesn’t help. Could it possibly be my FTP program (FileZilla), or my host (GoDaddy)?

Change the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Turned out to be a problem with my hosting. Upgraded hosting, and that fixed all the various problems I had. *sigh* Everything works now, so that’s good!

I also had the same problem for my blog https://www.clippingdesign.com/blog/ . After update latest version my problem has been fixed but some plug-in not working properly because of compatibility problem. I have just deactivate and waiting for new version of those plug-ins.
