Cannot “Add New” plugins after WP update to 5.03

  • When trying to add new plugins I get this error message:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”>

    You could try re-installing WordPress from the updates page. While this is a fairly standard troubleshooting step, make sure you take a backup before doing this just in case.

    I have reinstalled WordPress but the problem remains.

    Can you try disabling plugins one by one (or all at once if this is OK by you) to check if the issue is caused by one of them? I believe this is a standard troubleshooting step.
