I’m posting this as I just got the authentication to work and perhaps my experience will help someone else. For some unknown reason, MailPoet was looking for a capital “R” in the first position of our domain name. In MailPoet I added the Domain again, but with a lowercase “r” as the first letter, which matched the way the host was populating the records, and it magically authenticated. Even the screwy “Checking your Subscription” message disappeared – I never got anything about that, by the way.

One other thing: Our host, Ionos (formerly 1&1), doubled the domain when the DNS entries were made. I changed that by deleting the doubled entry as mentioned for another host in the guide.

    Good Luck.

    Hello there @cablaneymail,

Thank you for sharing your insightful experience and the resolution steps you undertook to address the authentication issues you encountered. Your findings are invaluable, and we believe they’ll significantly help others within our community.

To further clarify and assist others who might face similar challenges:

DNS Records Case Sensitivity: It’s crucial to ensure that the DNS records, including domain names, are entered in lowercase. This practice aligns with the general conventions and helps prevent authentication mismatches, as you’ve rightly discovered.

Domain Name Duplication: As encountered with your host (Ionos, formerly 1&1), a duplicated domain name in DNS entries can hinder proper verification. The canonical setup should avoid any repetition. As per our guide (see troubleshooting section here), removing the redundant domain portion from the DNS record names resolves this issue. This advice applies across various hosts that automatically append the domain to DNS records.

We applaud your diligence in troubleshooting and documenting these steps. To ensure the community benefits from your experience, we encourage users encountering similar issues to refer to our detailed troubleshooting guide.

Should you have further insights, questions, or require assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we continue to improve and make email management smoother for everyone.

    Warm regards,
