Cannot change 'Alt' text

This worked for me. But about 5 minutes later my website crashed. Anytime I loaded my website I got a blank screen.

I went on to my hosting support and eventually we figured out it was because I changed a widgets settings using the method above. They reset the widget to default and my website worked again.

Is there any of making these changes without my website crashing again?
