Now I added “qTranslate slug” and I can add the slugs in pages great ?? – but not in the links (Custom sub item) inside Appearance > Menus.

I have a page and a menu item called “Web Design” which works for all languages.

Within the page I created various ID’s and for those ID’s created URL’s in a Custom sub item of “Web Design” such as Hosting.
In English the URL to the ID Hosting would be:
/en/web-design/#hosting

In Spanish the URL to the ID Hosting would be:
/es/diseno-web/#hosting

In German the URL to the ID Hosting would be:
/de/webdesign/#hosting

But it does not let me have different URL’s – when I go to: Appearance > Menus

And I change the URL in the English Version of the Custom Sub item of Web Design – which is Hosting – it also changes the URL in all other languages to the same URL – for example:

I click the German Tab and add: de/webdesign/#hosting
I click the English Tab and change it to: en/web-design/#hosting and save Menu
Then it has also changed it to English in the German version and Spanish Version…

How can I change the URL’s of the Links by language?

I deactivated “qTranslate slug” to check if it was a compatibility problem but even now I can still not have different URL’s in the Custom menu sub items

I can have different Navigation Labels and Title Attributes and save those correctly in all langauges but the URL’s won’t save as one per language but one for all languages.

Any ideas?

Ok – now I deactivated all plugins – even activated 2014 theme and still no change. Please help I cannot change the URL’s of sub items per language and cannot find any instructions on this – but it seems such a basic feature to have different URL’s for different languages… anybody?

@mediafishcanarias,

do not use qTranslate Slug for now, see here

How can I change the URL’s of the Links by language?

You can not, and is not necessary.
for example: yoursite.com/en is adjusted if you change language to
yoursite.com/de or yoursite.com/es

Hi,

It seems you do not understand my issue. For menu items that have a page associated I have no problem – I also deactivated qTranslate slug. And the issue for Custom sub items persists.

You tell me I cannot change the URL’s of the link by language – and it is not necessary – but it is necessary.

As I told you I created ID’s inside a page for users to get to the topic faster. I have the topic Hosting inside the web-design page marked as:

I then create a Link and add it to the Menu – custom sub item link to it which in English the URL would be:
/en/web-design/#hosting

In Spanish the URL to the ID Hosting would be:
/es/diseno-web/#hosting

In German the URL to the ID Hosting would be:
/de/webdesign/#hosting

So how do you suggest I add an URL to each of those id’s in differnt languages? I tried simply adding /#hosting or #hosting but no success

Check the site here

I can also give you the access to the site for better understanding but not here… I guess

@mediafishcanarias,

you use qTranslate Slug – there are some problems with it.

But you can create a link in the menu with /en/web-design/#hosting

In Navigation Label you only place the English name for the menu, the other two ES and DE you leave blank.

Make another link now with /es/diseno-web/#hosting

In this Navigation Label you only place the Spanish name for the menu, the other two EN and DE you leave blank.

Also for the German URL in that Navigation Label you only place the German name rest leave blank

Check this and in the relevant language is only the correct link visible.

I hope this helps

Ok now I know what you mean – but then the URL is not SEF anymore…

Now I can get to the id’s however not with a SEF URL.

English URL – correct:
https://photoseller.mediafish.es/en/web-design/#hosting

This is ok but not in the other languages:

Spanish URL is:
https://photoseller.mediafish.es/es/web-design/#hosting
must be:
https://photoseller.mediafish.es/es/diseno-web/#hosting
German URL is:
https://photoseller.mediafish.es/de/web-design/#hosting
must be:
https://photoseller.mediafish.es/de/webdesign/#hosting

And in pages I cannot change the permalinks by language – it does change them for all languages.

Any idea how to achieve SEF friendly URL’s – as right now they are not.

Thanks

@mediafishcanarias,

I have looked into your site and everything works as it should.

mediafish.es/es/web-design/#hosting
must be:
mediafish.es/es/diseno-web/#hosting

This only works with qTranslate Slug – but with qTranslate X there are a number of reports on incompatibility that have not been solved.
Your problem seems also one. Activating Slug shows – web-design – diseno-web and webdesign as slugs but they are ignored in the menu.

I made it with links as I described above – see in your menu Hosting DE Hosting EN and Hosting ES. (I’ve made that temporarily you can remove it)
See what happens in the different languages.

For now the only solution I can think of and wait until the problem with qTranslate Slug is resolved.

Hi,

I just saw what you did… this is nice thank you for your help- but I really expected this Plugin to make SEF URL’s without those “hacks” especially reading all the ratings.

I was relying on the ratings of this plugin – changed my site from WPML to this qTranslate-X – which took me a lot of work (lots of reading and writing finding out why SEF URL’s did not work – which to me should be basic for a Plugin like this) now I fount out that it is not ready for a production site. I cannot deliver a site with a system like this never knowing when it is going to change and what kind of work this includes – I like to deliver websites to my clients that are 100 % reliable which this Plugin is not at the moment….

I am thankful for your help – but also would point out that this Plugin does not work as it should yet… or only with some “hacks” so just be aware of that if you think about using it or changing your system.

Wouldn’t it be simpler to integrate Permalinks into qTranslateX instead of adapting another third party product? And is there a timeline of when SEF URL’s should work in qTranslateX?

Thanks again

@mediafishcanarias,

because the author of qTranslate Slug for a while nothing has changed, and we also dependent on it has now taken us to a different decision.

The next version will most likely be dedicated to recovering functionality of QTranslate Slug in a native for qTranslate-X way.
