Cannot checkout + e-mails not sent

Hi,
Since a week ago we are getting an error box when checking out but it is empty.
The order is being added to the backend, so it is placed. But the customer doesn’t know, also because the transactional e-mails are not send to the customer nor to the administrator.
Could it be a timeout error or something like that?Hope to hear from you soon ??
