I am trying to authenticate my plugin to my gotowebinar account but I keep getting an error message.

The following is the error message:
We ran into an issue during authentication. The response from the GoToWebinar server was: cURL error 7: . An error can occur during the authentication process for a couple of reasons. If you are on a trial account sometimes the API does not work so please go onto a paid account. It is possible the GoToWebinar server is down and a temporary issue has occured. In which case please wait a few minutes and try again. Make sure that the account you are using to login with is for GoToWebinar and not another LogMeIn product. If you have turned caching off (in the General Options tab) it is possible you have ran into your daily API limit – it is recommended to keep caching turned on and to only delete the cache when necessary. You can also reach out to LogMeIn for further information on your account and why you could be experiencing this issue.

Can you please assist with this issue?

    Thank you

    Hi @tradecorporatefunds,

So you are sure none of the issues mentioned in the message apply to you?

Is this the first time you have used the plugin? Have you successfully authenticated before?

What version of the plugin are you using?

    Thanks,

I am not sure if anything applies to me. I have tried to do it with the same error message.

This is the first time trying to use this. I have never tried to authenticate before.

    I have Version 12.1.

I think I might have just figured out why it isn’t working. I have the free plugin from wordpress. The system is trying to authenticate through your site but I didn’t pay $60 for the pro version. Is this the reason I cannot use the plugin?

No, this is not the issue, the free version of the plugin is fully free. The authentication process goes through my site just to make the authentication process easier for users – it just acts as a router.

As I said, send me the details and I am sure I can get to the bottom of it pretty quickly.

I did go to the settings for the plugin and hit the button that says “CLICK HERE TO CONNECT WITH GOTOWEBINAR”. When I click this button I get the error I sent to you.

Well, as I said, send me the details and let me check, otherwise I don’t know what the issue could be. The issue could be a firewall or server configuration issue as well. You can look into this support issue here (it’s for a different plugin not done by me but the principle could be the same):

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/rss-error-wp-http-error-curl-error-7-failed-to-connect-to-wordpress-org-port/

The plugin is tested on a pretty stock standard apache server and works fine on hundreds of sites, if yours is anything else it’s possible something could be blocking ajax requests being made. I have tested it on an nginx server and it has worked fine as well – once again on a stock standard server setup.

You can also try disabling all plugins and try authenticating again. If that works, you can do some isolation tests to see which plugin is causing the issue – although likely some kind of firewall or security plugin.

I’m trying to get permission to give access to you. This may take 24 hrs.

I am going to mark this as solved. Let me know if you get the login details.

@northernbeacheswebsites I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#the-bad-stuff

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.
