hello, I am trying to connect google analytics within site kit plugin. I get this error: Error: We’ve detected there’s already an existing Analytics tag on your site (ID UA-131129656-48), but your account doesn’t seem to have access to this Analytics property. You can either remove the existing tag and connect to a different account, or request access to this property from your team.

However, using the tag assistant extension, it tells me no tags are on my site. The ID in the error message does not match the ID in my google analytics account.

I am unable to see traffic on google analytics. I think this is because I switched to a new theme.

Please let me know how to fix this error. Thank you so much!

  • I am also having amongst other, the same issue, I have posted this topic earlier – https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/site-kit-reauthentication-after-update-failing-error-503/#new-topic-0

I have noticed that this issue occurred after their update yesterday. I assume the update has a bug which they did not solved yet.

@jlott33 Thanks for reporting. From checking your site I only see that referenced Analytics tracking code. The Tag Assistant Chrome extension I don’t believe works as expected for AMP URLs, so it’s better to troubleshoot using a non logged in Google browser.

To troubleshoot can you check from a browser incognito window and see if the same issue occurs? If so please reset the Analytics module from that same incognito window. Be sure you are using the same Google account you’ve used to setup Site Kit also when asked.

Hi James, thanks for your response. I find it weird that so many things are not amp friendly considering that everyone is mobile.

Anyway, I have gone into an incognito window and tested analytics. The same error happened. I reset site kit and logged back in using the same google account to set it up. When I try to reconnect analytics, I get the same error.

Please let me know what else I can do. thank you!

@jlott33 How have you implemented that existing tracking code at present, via a theme feature or an Analytics plugin? Can you try and remove that existing tracking code before connecting the Analytics module and then selecting that property?

    Thread Starter jlott33

    (@jlott33)

I did not implement it manually. I believe it was through the site kit plugin, but I did change themes.

Unfortunately I do not know how or where to remove it from my site. I have searched the files and cannot find it. Do you have any info guides you can send to me? I’m not a coder. thank you!

I think it was through yoast actually. If I go into yoast > amp > analytics I am able to add the current id there. However, the same error happens. I tried resetting site kit in an incognito window, but that didn’t help.

I also just tried adding through amp > analytics and no luck. even in incognito and resetting.

@jlott33 Are you able to remove the current Analytics implementation and then adding the Analytics snippet via Site Kit? Once you’ve removed your current Analytics snippet I can check to confirm it’s removed.

I don’t know how to remove the current because I can’t find it. Under the two plugins it only allows me to add new. It does not show anything else. I searched through the files in appearance > theme editor, and I can’t find it. Where else would I be able to locate it? Thank you!

hello again, this is strange. I went into my google analytics dashboard and saw that it is now tracking. I went back into the plugin, and it said activated, then refreshed and gave me the same error. I tested by deactivating plugins. After deactivating amp plugin, I was able to connect.

Separately, I wanted to ask about how I can remove a plugin that is not listed in my active plugins, must-use, or drop-in list. I don’t know how mojo marketplace is in my plugins because I never installed it. It does not show in any of those plugin lists, but it shows up as a plugin when I look under site health.

I searched but I can’t find a forum for this plugin. I’ve only found other user topics posting about it. Can you point me in the right direction please?

Thank you for your patience and help!

@jlott33 No problem, we’ll get there. Did you check the following:
    – Your theme features
    – Manual insertion into your theme files
    – Any analytics plugins
    – The analytics section of the AMP plugin

Once you are able to remove the current AMP snippet we can check again.

I think we responded at the same time. My analytics is connected now after deactivating amp plugin. I was able to reactivate amp, and analytics still says connected.

Is it still showing the ID that you attached in the image?

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

@jlott33 Correct, I am still seeing that same tracking code on your site. You now have 2 different Analytics properties on your site.

Did you check for the different possible insertion methods, including your theme?

    Thread Starter jlott33

    (@jlott33)

    I see.

As for theme features, I installed and activated astra hooks. When I follow the instructions you provided, there is nothing in the wp_head box. I did not use this plugin before today.

manual insertion- I didn’t manual insert it. I also looked through theme files and cannot find it.

analytics plugins- in yoast > amp > analytics, I only have the option to add a new code. it does not display any other boxes or options.

amp > analytics the only entry is the one I entered with my current code.

    other plugins I have:
    antispam bee
    bluehost
    classic editor
glue for yoast seo & amp
    scriptless social sharing
    site kit
    updraftplus
    wp optimize
    yoast seo

I searched through all and don’t find any google analytics tags.

@jlott33 Can you try and temporarily deactivate Yoast and Glue for Yoast and AMP and I can check your site for the snippet once more?
