I have tried MANY times to re-connect LinkedIn to our WordPress site using Publicize, but I keep getting a “Secure Connection Failed” with this “The connection to api.linkedin.com was interrupted while the page was loading.”

I’ve tried disconnecting Jetpack and then reconnecting. I’ve tried login to LinkedIn and not logged in. I’ve updated to the latest version of Jetpack.

Nothing working. Hope someone can help. My website is https://www.planetearthlings.org.

    Thanks,
    Greg

@jeremy Herve Any idea about this. I saw you responded to a similar post. I do have JetPack 4.2.2. Any help appreciated. Have spent hours and just can’t get it connected. FYI after I disconnected JetPack and reconnected I had to reconnect all the other sharing sites and they ALL worked except for LinkedIn. Thanks!

I have the same issue. Any fix yet? Thanks

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Could you let me know if you experience a similar issue when trying to make the connection via this page?

If so, the problem most likely lies between your site and LinkedIn. Are you able to access all other LinkedIn features at https://www.linkedin.com/ ?

    Hi Jeremy…

Super happy to hear from you. I signed on to WordPress.com/sharing and went to chose my site https://www.planetearthlings.org (https://wordpress.com/sharing/www.planetearthlings.org). I got the same error when trying to connect to LinkedIn.

In the pop I received this message: “This site can’t be reached api.linkedin.com unexpectedly closed the connection.”

In the WordPress.com tab I got this message: “The LinkedIn connection could not be made because no account was selected.”

I’m signed into LinkedIn and everything seems to be working there.

Hope there is a way to get this working tonight as I’m releasing big news about our new game tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Greg

FYI…I also tried to connect to LinkedIn on the WordPress.com hosted site (https://wordpress.com/sharing/planetearthlings.wordpress.com) and received the same error.

Is it possible to go back to an earlier version of JetPack? I’ve had this problem for some weeks…but wasn’t paying attention because our site has been in upgrade mode. I’m guessing the problem has been there for at least two or three updates.

    Thanks again!

    Hello Jeremy,

Thanks for your reply. For me it is the same error message as above, but it is when I try to connect when visiting the sharing page of my WP Admin panel e.g. https://www.mysite.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing

I have no problems with accessing LinkedIn. I’ve logged in and out many times using the login details which are not working for this problem.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Thanks for giving that a try. I can’t reproduce on my end, but since you could reproduce on 2 different sites from your machine, it would seem to be a general issue when accessing LinkedIn’s API from your network.

Is it possible to go back to an earlier version of JetPack?

That won’t help I’m afraid, as the error is between your home network and LinkedIn’s API. It’s not directly related to Jetpack.

@planetearthlings @benchmarkgraphics Could you both try the following?

    1. Go to https://apigee.com/console/linkedin?apig_cc=1
    2. In the dropdown at the top of the page, select “oAuth 2” in the authentication option
    3. Authorise the API to communicate with your profile.
    4. The API console should reload.
    5. Select “Retrieve basic profile data” in the sidebar on the left.
    6. Click the orange “Send” button.
    7. Let me know what you see in the “Response” window. Please don’t post the X-LI-UUID and Set-Cookie: values here though.

    Thank you!

    Hey Jeremy…

Didn’t want to take any chance and post publicly something I shouldn’t so I’ve send you an e-mail through your website with the Apigee.com response window text.

    Hope that works. Thanks again!

    This is strange…

Decided to try to connect my LinkedIn sharing while connected to my home WiFi and it seems to have worked. Not sure what could have happened as my work connection is about six times faster. Wonder if it was something on LinkedIn’s side which suddenly got fixed.

    Any ideas???

    Hello Jeremy,

Mine is suddenly connecting as well. Could it be the recent Jetpack update?

The only issue I have now is it will only connect to my personal LinkedIn account. I need it sharing with a company page I manage, is that possible?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Excellent news!

This might be it, yes. The other alternative is that access to the LinkedIn API is restricted when coming from your work’s IP address.

Mine is suddenly connecting as well. Could it be the recent Jetpack update?

Jetpack didn’t play a role here, as you experienced the issue when trying to access api.linkedin.com. Did you try to connect from a different WiFi network, or from the same network as before?

If you managed to connect from a different location, that could validate my theory above; LinkedIn may have been restricting access to some specific IPs, and both of you were affected.

Either way, I’m glad to hear you’re all set!

I need it sharing with a company page I manage, is that possible?

Publicize currently doesn’t support LinkedIn Company pages. That’s on our roadmap though, and you can follow our progress here:
    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/259

I’ll post again here once we make progress on this.
