I noticed that my Facebook Share button no longer shows the count of the number of shares. I tried re-connecting to WordPress.com within Jetpack and it won’t connect. I get the following message :
Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 403]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: https://jetpack.me/support/

How do I fix this error? Jetpack has worked beautifully for me for the last couple of years, but now there seems to be a problem. I have the latest versions of Jetpack and WordPress. My website is https://www.slowenglish.info. Hope you can assist.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Jetpack uses your site’s XML-RPC file to communicate with WordPress.com. Unfortunately I cannot access that file on your site at the moment:
    https://slowenglish.info/xmlrpc.php

If you use a security plugin to block access to the file, you’ll need to configure it to allow incoming and outgoing connections to /xmlrpc.php.

If you do not use such plugin, you’ll want to contact your hosting provider and ask them if they currently block access to your site’s XML-RPC file.

I hope this helps. Please get in touch again if you have any questions.

Hi Jeremy. Many thanks for your assistance. I use All in One WP Security. I just deactivated it and then I was able to connect to WordPress.com successfully. I then reactivated All in One WP Security and Jetpack continued to work okay. I notice however that I have lost the count on my Facebook Share button. Is this to do with the latest version (4.2.1) of WordPress which I just took? Or is there some other change which might have caused this?

It is interesting that the Twitter button still has the count on it.

That’s interesting. I checked your last post, and Facebook’s API does return some results:
    https://graph.facebook.com/?ids=https://slowenglish.info/?p=1609,https://slowenglish.info/?p=1609&format=json&callback=WPCOMSharing.update_facebook_count

These results don’t appear in the sharing button, though:

Do you a caching service or plugin on your site? If so, could you try to flush your cache, and let me know if it helps?

Hi Jeremy. I don’t have a caching service as far as I know. I have never had a problem in the last 2 or so years with the count appearing on the Facebook button, so I’m not sure why it should suddenly stop displaying. Any further thoughts would be appreciated.
    Cheers,

    Hi Jeremy,

Actually, I just fixed it. I selected ‘Official Button’ for the display option and now the count is showing. All fixed. Many thanks for your assistance.

    SAME ISSUE:

    Good morning everybody,
I have a big issue: suddenly in my website only official Facebook button works (sharing function of JetPack). If I choose other options (only text or only icons), the Facebook button counts any like. All the other buttons as Twitter and Linkedin work well!
    The website is: https://www.turismoinserbia.it/
    I use JetPack 3.5 and WordPress 4.2.1.
    Can someone help me?
    Many thanks,
    Dino

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

After a bit of investigation, it seems that these problems are related to changes Facebook made to their API yesterday. Due to this change, the current method of counting shares that Jetpack uses is not working. We are planning to release an update to Jetpack soon which will address this issue. Keep an eye out for an update, it should fix your problem!
