  • I’m experiencing the same error.

The site in question is running Redirection version 2.4.2 on WordPress 4.3.1

The plugin works fine on a site we’ve built running on WordPress 2.5.1

Other redirection plugins work, but I like Redirection because it shows the number of hits received by the WP redirects you set up.

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Same problem here.

I have a multisite. I cannot create groups on my main domain but I can in my subdomains.

    Same issue.

    I have a multisite.

The plugin is activated per site (not network wide).

    Same issue.

Multisite. Working for me on the sites that are subfolders of the root domain but not on sites that are using domain mapping.

The default groups also aren’t being created, which means I can’t add any redirects since I can’t add them to a group.

Redirection plugin activated on per-site basis.

    Hello everyone,

Try to install the plugin copy from Github,

    https://github.com/johngodley/redirection

It fixed the above issues for me,

    Hope that helps ??

I’m having this same issue. Not using multi-site these are single installations. If the gethub version fixes this problem then the author needs to update the version here in the WP repo.

Same issue. Can’t add a redirect because there’s no group specified. Try to add a group, and it tells me to enter a name even though I did.

    Same issue.
No way to add a group, always getting “Please specify a group name”.
Thus I cannot create any redirection?
It works on my localhost test site but not on my online site (exact same configuration and plugins). Tried pretty much everything found here and in other posts related to the same problem.
    No resolution from the author?
It seems to be a real recurring issue for months if not years.

    I found what it was.
The reason was that the user operating the SQL databases had only read-write privileges. Thus the 4 Redirection tables (wp_redirection_404.sql, wp_redirection_groups.sql, wp_redirection_items.sql, wp_redirection_logs.sql) could not be created.
Setting it as administrator resolved the issue.

Maybe a better error handling with a more explicit error message (“Please specify a group name” doe snot tell anything) would have helped.
