Cannot Deactivate plugin

Another way to deactivate a plugin is to SFTP into your site and then navigate to wp-content/plugins/

and then delete the folder this-day-in-history

If you need SFTP credentials, you can get those from your web host.

Are there any database entries created that need to be removed? What about the new post type: tdih_event that RankMath discovered?

Ah, I see your other question above. Yes, the tdih_event post type will be removed when you deactivate and remove the plugin. As long as you didn’t create any posts in that post type, I’d say you’re safe to delete the plugin as suggested above. If you’re concerned about other database entries related to the plugin, you could check out a plugin such as Advanced Database Cleaner (make sure to take a backup before using a plugin like this!)

But deactivating is the problem. I can certainly SFTP and remove that plugin directory, but will that impact the tdih_event post type notice? I see that if I could deactivate and remove the plugin it would take care of tdih_event post type, but not by deleting the directory, or does it?

Deleting the directory would deactivate and delete the plugin from your site, taking the tdih_event post type with it. If you want to deactivate the plugin and leave it installed on your site, rename the directory. That way, you can see if the notice goes away once it’s deactivated (my guess is it will). Apologies for the confusion!

I renamed the directory wp-content/plugins/early_this-day-in-history.

The plugin is no longer active. There is now a link to delete it from the plugin list. Before I do, however, I am still seeing the MathRank notice: Rank Math has detected a new post type: tdih_event. You may want to check the settings of the Titles & Meta page and the Sitemap. Will that disappear when I delete the plugin?

And if it matters at all: I never made any entry into This Day in History. I also never created a widget for it.

I’m sorry I’m afraid I’m not familiar with the RankMath plugin. I suggest taking a backup of your site before deleting the This Day in History plugin, just in case. My guess is the notice will go away, but I don’t know that for sure.

After dismissing the notice and deleting the plugin, I no longer see the notice pop up. I am going to declare victory and move on. Thanks again for your patience.
